Edit (28/05/2009):This is not a paid post. They didn't contact me, I just like what they do.
All reviews in 160 characters. The concept is simple and it works. I've been a Blippr user since quite a while now and it's quite hard to summarize a movie or an album, or even a book in 160 characters. But that's why the review is so much more valuable. Because you need to go to the essential.

Why I like it:

  • Fair. Everyone is fighting with the same weapons: 160 characters.
  • Concise. It's long enough to express something but short enough to force you to go to the essential.
  • Community-based. In the pure tradition of Web 2.0 services, everyone can create a new item. What is also a bad thing, because it means there are duplicates.
  • No Spoiler. Managing to spoil a movie in 160 characters is possible, but it really reduces the chances.
  • The Staff. They are cool and answering fast to my questions, I like that (and also they use getsatisfaction.com, i love it)
  • Integration. You can automatically import your blips to Twitter (if you follow me on twitter, you probably noticed), your favorite music on Last.fm is automatically added to your stuff on blippr... You see the concept. It works with Plurk, Identi.ca, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Tumblr, XBox360, GoodReads, Netflix and more coming probably. Not essential, but very handy.
  • Recommendation. When you read reviews and you agree with them, you have to possibility to say that you like it. It will add this reviewer to a secret recommendation algorithm. I was very skeptical about this but the more I use it, the better the recommendation are.

What I don't like

  • Web 2.0Community.Geeks to put it straight. Yes early adopters of web 2.0 services are geeks, let's face it. Meaning the most blipped stuff are comic book and Star Trek (exaggerated). But it is getting better while more and more people are joining.
  • Short. To write my own reviews, I always struggle not to write "This is great". My lack of english vocabulary is really showing off. But it's a good exercise.
  • Foreign Languages. Some people are blipping in their mother language, and I can't blame them for that (cf my previous point). But when someone says "Jeden z lepszych filmów Akira Kurosawy.Brutalny zwyczaj popełniania samobójstwa przez samurajów." about a movie, it doesn't help me.

If you join, follow me! The more people, the better the reviews will be...
